 1952-1954 Founding of PHENOLCHEMIE in Gladbeck by Bergwerksgesellschaft Hibernia AG, Scholven Chemie AG (both merged to VEBA Chemie AG in 1961), Rütgerswerke AG and Bakelite GmbH (in 1954 replaced by Harpener Bergbau AG).

 1954 Start up of Gladbeck plant in Germany (8 ktpa Phenol).

 1954-1999 Expansion of the Gladbeck site capacity in several steps to 620 ktpa Phenol.

 1969 Renaming of Scholven Chemie to VEBA Chemie AG.

 1979 VEBA Chemie AG transferred its 50% share to Hüls AG.

 1993 Start-up of Antwerp plant in Belgium (200 ktpa Phenol).

 1994 Full Acquisition by Hüls AG.

 1997 Doubling of capacity at Antwerp plant (420 ktpa Phenol).

 1998 Merger of Degussa AG and Hüls AG resulting in Degussa-Hüls AG.

 2000 Start up of Mobile plant in Alabama, USA (400 ktpa Phenol).

 2001 INEOS acquires PHENOLCHEMIE and forms INEOS Phenol.

 2003 Debottlenecking of Mobile plant to 440, Antwerp plant to 450 and Gladbeck plant to 630 ktpa Phenol.

 2005 Debottlenecking of Mobile plant to 500, Antwerp plant to 470 and Gladbeck plant to 650 ktpa Phenol.
