Formaldehyde

The entry into force date for the reclassification according the 6th ATP has been postponed from 1st April 2015 to 1st January 2016

In Europe Formaldehyde (FA) has been re-classified as Carcinogenicity Cat 1B (not restricted to inhalation route) and Mutagenicity (germ cells) Cat 2. The EU Commission has amended the 6th ATP (EU/605/2014) because of some delays in the adoption process of the transition period of only 10 months appears insufficient to allow economic operators to adapt to the new rules. In Article 3 of Regulation (EU) No 605/2014, paragraph 3 has been replaced by the following: "Article 1(3) shall apply from 1 January 2016".

Germany decided on an OEL for Formaldehyde ( 0.3 ppm Time-Weighted Average (TWA), 4 x 15 min peaks of 0.6 ppm Short-Term Exposure Limits (STEL)).

Our Formaldehyde Letter will provide some back ground information and an outline of INEOS actual activities in the context of the Formaldehyde re-classification.
