The Grangemouth refinery and petrochemicals facility is INEOS’ largest production centre. It is a deeply integrated site exploiting synergies between the refinery and the petrochemicals plants. Located 40 kilometres west of Edinburgh on a 1700-acre site, the petrochemicals facility manufactures over 2 million tonnes of chemicals products per annum and the refinery has an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes.

At the heart of the petrochemicals site is the KG ethylene cracker which produces the feed materials used by the other chemicals plants. The unit has an ethylene production capacity of around 1 million tonnes per year between them. The KG (Kinneil Gas) unit is a gas cracker using mainly ethane and propane as its raw materials. Grangemouth's ability to crack gas feedstocks has significant commercial advantages.

The Grangemouth Refinery processes around 200,000 barrels per day of crude oil, producing more than 9 million litres of clean fuels every day. The refinery’s oil feedstock is mainly supplied by the neighbouring BP-operated Kinneil oil and gas processing plant, with an increasing proportion imported to the site via pipeline from the Finnart Ocean Terminal located 90 kilometres west of Grangemouth.

Newton Aycliffe, UK

INEOS Newton Aycliffe Ltd manufactures PVC resins and PVC compounds at the160 acre site, which comprises two businesses, INEOS ChlorVinyls and INEOS Enterprises Compounds business. It has a capacity of around 290 kte per annum of PVC resins from the largest S-PVC production site in the UK and some 122 kte per annum of compounds from the largest single site PVC compounding plant in Europe with these products sold to other businesses in the construction, cable insulation, packaging, automotive and medical industries.

The Runcorn Site is one of the largest manufacturing sites in the INEOS portfolio - focusing in the production of chlorine, caustic soda, sulphuric acid, PVC and derivatives. Located in the North West of England the site is the only chlorine and sulphuric acid production facilities in the UK. It employs around 1600 people and is host to three INEOS businesses including INEOS Enterprises manufacturing and sales as well as INEOS ChlorVinyls and INEOS Technologies.

Baleycourt, France

The Enterprises Baleycourt production facility is located in France, 8kms west of Verdun in the department of Meuse. Its location is in the heart of an agricultural region specialising in the cultivation of rapeseed. More than 700 000 tonnes of various products are transported in and out of the site each year.

The main production activities at the site are:

  • manufacturing esters from various alcohols and acids
  • chlorination of paraffins
  • crushing of rapeseed, and the esterification of the vegetable oil

The Koeln Site, re-branded in June 2006 as INEOS Koeln GmbH, was founded back in 1957 as a Joint Venture between the famous British oil giant BP and the German chemical and pharmaceutical company, Bayer. The site today employs approximately 2000 people. It manufactures Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and the metallocene Linear Low Density Polyethylene (mLLDPE).

Its main feedstock is Naphtha which is delivered to the site by barges on the Rhine River or by pipelines. The site consists of 18 different plants which are set up in seven so-called assets and is connected to three major feedstock and product pipelines. It produces more than 4 million tes of products per annum, of which 85% were sold in Germany and the BENELUX Countries to nearly 900 customers. 70% of these customers have their companies located in a 200 km “Circle” around the site.

INEOS Enterprises Helsingborg Site forms part of the INEOS Compounds group which also consists of the sites in Sins in Switzerland and Newton Aycliffe in England. The annual capacity of PVC Compounds from this site is 22 000 tonnes. The plant is located in the town of Helsingborg by the coast in the south of Sweden. The site employs approximately 55 staff and manufactures PVC Compounds for a variety of applications. The products are delivered mainly in the Nordic market as rigid and flexible pellets as well as in powder form called “dry blend”.

The Springfield, Massachusetts facility is located at an industrial park operated by Solutia Inc. Monsanto began producing Melamine resins at this site in 1946 under the Resimene trade name.

At the Springfield Plant, INEOS Melamines manufactures numerous Melamine resins. The two primary families of resins produced at the site include methylated resins and co-etherified resins. The co-etherified resins incorporate butanol as well as methanol into the manufacturing process. Manufacturing capacity has been steadily increased throughout the site’s 61 year production history. Recent projects have increased plant capacity by over 30% during the last three years. Excellent safety and environmental performance along with continuous improvements in product quality all combine to make the Springfield Plant a world class manufacturing site.

INEOS Paraform's manufacturing plant at Mainz in Germany is located close to the river Rhine and the port of Mainz, 4 km north-west to the city centre.

Production began in 1856 with the manufacture of charcoal. Today we are a leading manufacturer of formaldehyde and its derivatives.

The production unit of formaldehyde is dedicated to both serving the merchant market with a broad range of different grades and to cover the demand for the manufacture of derivatives (paraformaldehyde, hexamine, dimethoxymethane). 

It has two production lines, using the silver catalyst process.

The plants of paraformaldehyde and hexamine are manufacturing standard and specialty grades which enable us to fulfill the requirements of many different applications. 

With about 145 people at the site, INEOS Paraform applies the highest health, safety and environmental standards.

Breda, The Netherlands

The Breda plant is located in the southernmost region of the Netherlands, 28 miles (45 kilometers) from Antwerp, Belgium and 31 miles (50 kilometers) south of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Operating plants are located on the 50-acre (20-hectare) site, including an expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant and a high performance polystyrene facility.

The site's first EPS production line started up in 1964, with significant expansion of a second production line in 1969 and further expansion in the years after. The site became part of INEOS Styrenics on October 1, 2011.

Styrene, which is transported to the site via barge, and pentane feedstock are used in the production of both EPS and polystyrene resins.

Breda manufactures many different types of EPS including packaging, fire resistant grades and specialities, such as cup grade and high density EPS. The plant is capable of producing more than one type of EPS simultaneously through the use of three fully automated finishing units.

European Services

The European Technology Centre is located at the Breda site and includes a research laboratory and pilot plant facilities. These facilities, used for research and testing for the EPS business and our customers, are integrated with the manufacturing operations and technical services.

European Customer Service, European Supply and Demand, European Logistics and European Finance groups are also located in Breda.

End Use Products

Expandable polystyrene products from Breda are used in insulation, cups and foam packaging. The Breda site is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

Wingles, France

Wingles is located in the North of France, 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Paris and approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Lille.

Operating units are located on the 74-acre (34 hectares) site; these include an expandable polystyrene plant.

The site's first EPS production started in 1976 and over the years went through significant expansion to reach its current capacity. Feedstock styrene used for the production of expandable polystyrene is transported to the site via barges.

The Wingles site is engaged in a policy of Total Quality to meet the customer's needs and is fully certified ISO 9001-2008.

Health Safety and Environment are the highest priorities of the site. Wingles chose to implement a modern safety policy and systems and is fully certified to ISO140001/ Eco Audit.

In June 2011 the site successfully passed 8 years without injury causing absence from work. The public is regularly informed about the environmental results of the site, in conformance with the community system of environmental management and audit.

Wingles site also takes part in the development of local life. Strong relationships have been developed between the company and the community, in the cultural area and sport education areas

Ribécourt, France

The Ribécourt facility is located about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of Paris. The facility is located in a 10-acre site and manufactures grey expandable polystyrene: EPS Silver™. The facility complies with the highest Safety, Health & Environment standards and the whole site is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 registered.

The grey expandable polystyrene facility began operations in 2004 with significant expansion in 2007, 2010 and 2012. The site became part of INEOS Styrenics in early 2011.

The site is capable of undertaking all kinds of product performance evaluations through the use of the application laboratory, which is well equipped with different expansion technologies and moulding machines.

Expandable Polystyrene Production

The Ribécourt site specialises in production of fire resistant grades of EPS and high performance products such as grey EPS (EPS Silver™ Polymers).

The plant is capable of producing EPS Silver™ Fire Resistant grades simultaneously with EPS Silver™ Regular grades through the use of two fully automated finishing lines. Styrene feedstock is transported to the site via rail and is used in the manufacture of EPS Silver™ resins. Other feedstocks include pentane, carbon black and various nucleating agents and product coatings.

End Use Products

Ribécourt has been a consistently high-quality source of EPS Silver™ raw materials for block and moulded applications. Product is shipped to customers by truck in Octabins carrying one metric ton. EPS Silver™ is used to manufacture end products such as insulation board, moulded insulation panels and parts. The Ribécourt site is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 certified.
