INEOS Nitriles receives ‘Best in Texas Safety Award’ from the Texas Chemical Council - the eleventh year running

INEOS Nitriles, a division of INEOS USA LLC (previously Innovene USA) has received the Best in Texas Award from the Texas Chemical Council (TCC), for its outstanding record and commitment to improving safety. This is the eleventh year in succession that the Green Lake facility in Texas has received the Award, presented this year at a ceremony in Galveston, Texas.

INEOS Nitriles’ Green Lake facililty was selected "Best in Texas" for Class II (61-200 employees). The site was also recognized for meeting the criteria for Distinguished Service, Best in Texas. INEOS was one of only four sites to receive Awards out of more than 200 other companies across the state. The top facilities within each of four categories (determined by the number of plant workers) receive an Award.

“We are delighted that our continuous investment of time and resource to continually improve safety has been recognized by TCC,” commented Kate Holzhauser Operations Director for INEOS Nitriles. “We are pleased to receive this Award but recognise that we can not rest here and will continue to find new ways to improve our performance. Last year our ‘Cultural Assessment’ gave management an invaluable insight into our strengths and opportunities for improvement of their current systems. From this we implemented our Safety Absolutes program that focused employee attention on key safety rules that helped reduce incidents and contributed to a zero recordable rate for our employees.”

“This site is a leader in safety performance and sets an example that we all should follow,” said Jerry Ehrman of TCC in presenting the Award to INEOS.

The aim of the Texas Chemical Council Awards Program is to promote the continual improvement of safety performance by member companies. The Program recognises exemplary results and demonstrable commitment to safe operations through implementation of TCC supported safety-related programs.

Note to editors:

INEOS is a rapidly growing manufacturer of petrochemicals, speciality and intermediate chemicals and polymers. The company was formed by a management buy out of the former BP petrochemicals asset in Antwerp, which was led by Jim Ratcliffe, who is now its Chairman. The company has subsequently grown through a series of successful acquisitions and continues to build on businesses that have good people and assets, supported by strong market positions and a potential for further growth.

On the 16th December 2005 INEOS completed the purchase of Innovene, BP's olefins, derivatives and refining subsidiary. The acquisition creates a combined business with a turnover of around $33bn. The acquisition of the Innovene business fits with the INEOS strategy to create a petrochemical company that has the scale to compete globally.

INEOS has 68 manufacturing facilities across 14 countries throughout the world. With 15,600 employees, the Company produces more than 30 million tonnes of petrochemicals, 20 million tons per annum of crude oil refined products (fuels) and sales of around $33bn.

Companies receiving Awards in other categories included: Sea Lion Technologies of Texas City, INEOS Nitriles in Green Lake, Lyondell Chemical Company in Pasadena and BASF of Freeport.
