• INEOS announces the launch of Scotland’s biggest Shale gas information programme, aimed at giving the Scottish public the facts about Shale gas extraction. This follows the Scottish government’s announcement that it intends to seek the public’s views on unconventional oil and gas and believes an evidence based approach is best.
• INEOS’ programme will explain how Shale gas extraction actually works, the issues involved and the benefits to both the country and the local communities. A series of films called “The Fracking Facts” will be screened to support the presentations.
• The “town hall” meetings will begin in the areas where INEOS already has Shale gas licenses and will then roll out across the whole of Scotland’s Shale gas belt. The public will be given the opportunity to question INEOS about its Shale gas plans.
• INEOS Shale CEO, Gary Haywood, says, “The Scottish government wants the public to be fully informed about Shale gas production and we are determined to help. We are launching Scotland’s biggest Shale gas information programme to make sure that local communities get the chance to hear the facts rather than the myths about Shale gas.”

INEOS today announces Scotland’s biggest Shale gas information programme, aimed at giving the Scottish public the facts about Shale gas extraction. This follows the Scottish government’s announcement that it intends to seek the public’s views on unconventional oil and gas and believes an evidence based approach is best. 

The INEOS Shale gas information programme will highlight both the issues and benefits of Shale gas extraction as well as making the company available to answer questions about its plans for Shale gas production in Scotland and elsewhere.

The programme will start in mid-April and take the form of a series of “town hall” meetings, beginning in the areas where INEOS already holds Shale gas licences and then rolling out across the whole of the Scottish Shale gas belt. The first phase will consist of meetings in fifteen towns including Denny, Alloa, Falkirk, Kilsyth, Bishopbriggs and Cumbernauld.

We are launching Scotland’s biggest Shale gas information programme to make sure that local communities get a chance to hear the facts rather than the myths about Shale gas”.

It is the company’s intention that as many meetings as possible will be led by Tom Pickering, an INEOS Shale director, and be supported by other INEOS staff. During the meetings, a series of films called “The Fracking Facts” will be screened, explaining some of the issues surrounding Shale gas extraction.

The meetings are intended to show exactly how INEOS intends to deal with these issues and also explain INEOS’ plan to give 6% of Shale gas revenues to the local community – typically amounting to £375 million per community.  The meetings will conclude with a Q&A session where the public can ask INEOS any questions that they have on Shale gas extraction.

INEOS Shale Director, Tom Pickering, says, “At INEOS we know the importance of talking to the community about Shale gas extraction. We believe Shale gas could revolutionise manufacturing in Scotland, creating tens of thousands of new jobs. We also believe INEOS has the skills to safely extract it from the ground and that our plan to share the revenue with the local community is a good one.”
