INEOS awards Local Scottish Civil Engineering Firm substantial contract
- INEOS awards multi-million pound civil engineering contract to Glasgow-based Luddon Construction
- The contract will provide employment for between 80 and 120 local people
- Luddon Construction will deliver civil engineering works as part of INEOS’ £300m ethane supply project at Grangemouth
- Scope includes the installation of over 1500 piles and 3,000 cubic metres of concrete pipe supports covering a distance of 5km
Scottish engineering firm, Luddon Construction, has been awarded a multi-million pound contract by INEOS at Grangemouth to deliver civil engineering works associated with their £300m Ethane Supply Project.
The Ethane Supply Project, due for completion in 2016, will allow INEOS to import, store and utilise competitive US shale gas ethane. The Luddon Construction scope of the project will include the installation of 3,000 cubic metres of concrete pipetrack supports and associated civil works (1500 piles) that are integral to the overall project.
Robert Hamilton, O&P UK Procurement Manager, INEOS said, “Following a rigorous tender process we are delighted to announce that the civil contract for the main pipeline civil works associated with the ethane supply project has been awarded to a local company, Luddon Construction. We anticipate that the contract will provide employment for between 80 and 120 local people over the course of the contract.”

Ethane Supply Project:
The Ethane Supply Project when completed will allow INEOS O&P UK to import, store and utilise US sourced shale gas ethane. Currently under construction at the Grangemouth site is Europe’s largest ethane storage which will have the capacity to store 60,000 cubic metres of ethane gas.
With the steady decline in ethane from the North Sea, the introduction of US shale gas ethane will provide the site with a long-term source of feedstock for the Grangemouth site’s petrochemical plants.
O&P UK:
Formed in July 2012, the O&P UK business consists of the O&P activities on the Grangemouth site as well as the Wilton ethylene liquefaction unit on Teesside. Our world-scale petrochemical plants make around 1 million tonnes per annum of product, used as the building blocks in the manufacture of household items that society depends upon every day. These include ethylene and propylene (Olefins) and polymers: polyethylene and polypropylene. Our products are used extensively in the petrochemical industry and transformed into bottles and pipes, cabling and insulation, food packaging and are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
The O&P UK business employees 800 people on the 1700 acre site at Grangemouth.
