Operations Engineer

INEOS Oligomers contains a portfolio of products that include Polybutene (PiB), Linear Alpha Olefins (LAO), Poly Alpha Olefins (PAO) and Diisobutylene (DiB). To serve our customers, INEOS Oligomers has manufacturing facilities in Belgium, Canada, Germany, and the United States (Texas). PIB is produced Lavera, France. Products are sold into a wide variety of applications including lubricants, lube additives, adhesives, sealants, rubber modification, cosmetics and personal care.

Operations Engineer (m/f)

Function

The Production Engineer supports the Manufacturing Manager in the day to day operation of the plant and is involved with the implementation of projects related to the improvement of the process reliability, product quality, efficiency, energy and HSE impact.

Internal factors influencing the job are reliability and quality challenges, HSE and energy consumption expectations, profitability and continuous improvement initiatives, capex and variable and fixed cost limitations.

Key roles and accountabilities include:
The Operation engineer will work closely with operators and maintenance to assure the plant is operating at the desired conditions and troubleshoots any problems that prevent us from reaching those conditions. He/She will also continually develop and implement ideas to increase capacity, lower cost and improve safety and environmental performance. Primary responsibilities are :

Safety & Environmental:
Participate in Process Safety Review or Management of Change process.
Initiate communications with affected areas and produce progress reports.
Report and lead investigation results with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, documentation.
Provide engineering assistance for environmental permitting requirements.
Participate in reporting initial safety or environmental event
Maintain knowledge of safety rules and ensure all personnel follow them.
Assure work place practices are in conformity with established guidelines (IGGN).
Promote the INEOS 20 Principles

Day to day operations :
Provide Operations and Technical assistance during construction and startup.
Help train operators on how the general process works.
Responsible for developing good operation discipline and procedures for the assigned area.
Help coordination pre-commissioning and commission with field construction and establish a schedule of activities.
Provide engineering assistance and expertise to Operations and Maintenance as needed.
Provide instruction to the Operations Technicians on the business operation of the plant, including daily written instructions and verbal communication.
Determine optimum operating conditions for the plant to achieve a safe operation, which meets the production plan and produces a quality product at minimum cost. (Provide input on the Key Input and Key Out puts that should be tracked to ensure an efficient operation)
Resolve day-to-day technical issues involved in operating the plant and communicate these solutions to others for execution.
Participate in weekly conference call with other Oligomers sites and Supply Chain Manager
Write and/or review operating procedures and provide appropriate training. 

Production Reports and Planning:
Track yields and production and feed information into month end closing.
Assist the Operations Manager in production, business and budget planning.
Assist the Operations Manager in preparation of month end reports as required.
Distribute Daily production report to management.

Continuous Improvement & Optimization:
Review and make recommendations to keep the plants operating envelope current.
Continuously initiate ways to improve plant operations, safety and environmental performance through day-to-day activities and recommendations for optimized unit conditions.
Drive continuous variable cost improvement.
Work with INEOS Technology group to optimize plant operating conditions to maximize profitability.
Obtain process and operating data to perform calculations for feasibility studies, process studies, and evaluations. Investigate assignments and establish plans with objectives and a schedule.

Communications & Relationship Building:
Main liaison between Site and water/process chemicals services provider

Leadership:
Drive alarm management to completion and provide support for continuing success.
Supervise and mentor Coop Students.
Rotation of on call support to cover seven day a week operations.
Facilitate morning production meeting, capturing bottlenecks, efficiencies and operating plan both short and long term  

Profile

Education/Experience
Master in the engineering sciences: chemical technology
Good understanding of business principles
Preferable 5 years plant process/production experience
Language: fluent French and working English

Skills/Competencies
Good understanding of chemical engineering and chemical plant operations and project engineering.
Proficiency with Aspen engineering suite, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
Strong drive to work on continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment (i.e Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma).
Take initiatives, analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
Creative and innovative. Strong written and oral communication skills
