The Women into Engineering Programme
As part of a week long series of activities organised by the engineering department at Strathclyde University to promote Women into Engineering, 60 school pupils aged 14/15 (S3/S4) from across Scotland spent a day at the Grangemouth site.
The event coincided with National Women in Engineering Day 2016 and the pupils, along with lecturers and teachers, had the opportunity to explore the site in the company of some of our engineers, visiting the KG ethylene plant and control room.
Erin Gilliland-Patterson, a study engineer in the polymers business said, “It is very important to support events such as this. We need to encourage the next generation of engineers to take up the subject and demonstrate to young people the many and varied opportunities that a career in engineering can provide.” The visit concluded with a series of presentations with Erin, Aimee McLaughlin, mechanical asset engineer with Petroineos and Morag Miller, third year process modern apprentice, sharing with the young ladies their experiences of the refining and petrochemical industry and providing words of encouragement to those contemplating an engineering career.
