Whitworth Scholarship Award for Logan McArthur
Congratulations to Logan McArthur, 5th year (Chemical) Engineer of the Future who has been awarded a Whitworth Scholarship Award.
Named after the Victorian engineer, Sir Joseph Whitworth, the award is made annually to individuals who have completed an apprenticeship, to support them in pursuing an engineering degree.
To qualify and meet the exacting standards required to be in receipt of a Scholarship Award, Logan had to demonstrate outstanding practical skills and academic performance as well as attend an interview in front of esteemed members of the IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) and Whitworth Society.
The Engineers of the Future programme meets the Scholarship application criteria very closely. The Programme provides proof and assurance of a high level of academic and practical achievement with the acquisition of an SVQ (practical qualification) as well as an HND (academic) in the first two years of study.

During the application and interview processes, Logan was asked to explain his career path to date as well as his aspirations. He drew on his experiences of the Engineers of the Future course content to answer technical questions and also gave his view on current engineering innovations and how engineering could shape the future.
The panel was very interested in what I had to say in response to their questions as well as in the Engineers of the Future Programme,
said Logan. I explained that an aspiration was to qualify with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering and once qualified work towards Chartership.
In encouraging others to consider applying for the Scholarship Award, Logan said: Anyone who has an apprenticeship qualification and who is embarking on a degree at University could apply for the Award. It's not just open to Chemical Engineers but also other engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Instrument/Electrical and Aerospace.
The awarding of the Whitworth Scholarship Award is another accolade for the bespoke Engineers of the Future Programme, the high calibre people selected to be part of the scheme and a fitting example of the purpose of the legacy of Joseph Whitworth.
