Mineral Extraction

The aggressive process chemicals and elevated temperature environments commonly found in mineral recovery operations (hydromet) are among the most corrosive of any industry.

Traditional materials of construction, such as rubber-lined carbon steel, stainless steel, masonry – even exotic alloys, are often challenged in these conditions.  With the ability to withstand harsh acids and acid chlorides in temperatures up to 120°C, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) process vessels and piping designed with INEOS Derakane™ epoxy vinyl ester resins are preferred in hydrometallurgical operations globally.

Derakane™ resins have been specified for FRP equipment since the 1960’s to combat the harsh metal extraction processes associated with copper, cobalt, nickel, lithium, uranium, and rare earth mineral extraction. Derakane™ resins deliver unsurpassed durability and extend the service life of your equipment. Some mineral extraction equipment applications include:

  • Electrowinning cells & covers
  • Storage and processing vessels
  • Acid & abrasion resistant piping, ducting and scrubbers

There is no substitute for proven reliability. INEOS can determine the right processing and performance characteristics for nearly any hydrometallurgical application. Our worldwide resources, including INEOS corrosion teams across the globe, are ready to provide innovative, corrosion-resistant solutions and application guidance for your specific need.
