Acetic acid

INEOS offers acetic acid in a range of grades and blends with water or acetic anhydride.

Acetic acid is a corrosive, colorless liquid that turns to a solid at 62oF. It’s also referred to as glacial acetic acid because, when solid, it forms white crystals that look like ice. It’s soluble in water and when very dilute is referred to as its more common name, vinegar. Acetic acid is mostly used as a raw material in the production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), purified terephthalic acid (PTA), peracetic acid (PAA) and ethyl acetate.

Acetic anhydride

Acetic anhydride is a colorless liquid with a strong pungent odor. In the Americas it is mostly used in the production of cellulose acetate, followed by pharmaceuticals and as a wood preservative treatment known as acetylated wood.

Acetic anhydride is available in bulk quantities of 99.0% purity and 60% anhydride / 40% acetic acid blends.
