Giving PVC Waste a New Life

Creating a truly circular economy for plastics is one of Europe's greatest sustainability challenges.

PVC is already one of the most recycled polymers in Europe, but many waste streams still fall outside the reach of conventional recycling.

Project Circle is INEOS Inovyn's initiative to to help address this challenge. By combining innovative recycling technologies with strong partnerships across the value chain, we are developing new ways to transform complex PVC waste into valuable resources that can be returned to the value chain.

Unlocking Circularity for Every PVC Application

PVC is already recycled mechanically, but some waste streams remain challenging. Project Circle develops the technologies and partnerships needed to address those waste streams and bring circularity to every PVC application.

Tackling the Most Challenging Waste Streams

While mechanical recycling remains the preferred route, some PVC waste streams require additional solutions.

Project Circle specialises in PVC-containing composites and materials with legacy additives that cannot be effectively recycled mechanically, including construction and demolition waste, flooring, carpets, coated textiles, multi-material products and mixed plastic waste.

Through advanced recycling technologies such as dissolution, gasification and pyrolysis, we are recovering valuable materials and returning them to the value chain.

Through successful collaboration and technology development, Project Circle has proven new pathways for recycling complex PVC waste streams. Our ambition is now to scale these solutions and deliver the first large-scale PVC waste recycling unit by 2030."

From Innovation to Industrial Reality

Project Circle builds on years of research, development and collaboration.

Through initiatives such as CIRC-PVC, DISSOLV and CIRC-ADD, we have demonstrated that even the most challenging PVC waste streams can be transformed into high-quality recycled materials suitable for demanding applications.

Together, these initiatives have generated valuable insights across collection, sorting, logistics and advanced recycling technologies, helping lay the foundations for the next chapter of PVC circularity.
