Antwerp, Belgium

INEOS Phenol Antwerp Belgium SiteThe site in the harbour area of Antwerp, Beligum, was constructed in 1992 with its first product appearing in May 1993. INEOS acquired the Doel (Antwerp) site in 2001. The initial capacity of 200,000 te/a was quickly expanded to 420,000 te/a four years later. In 2008, when other producers were contracting, production capacity was expanded further to at least 680,000 te/a of Phenol by installing our latest proprietary production technology. As a result Antwerp became the world’s largest Phenol production facility.

Access to Europe’s premium shipping hub allows the business to supply all our cumene and the vast majority of our finished product by ship via our jetty at the river Schelde. The site has excellent storage and distribution facilities and has the capacity to store over 40,000 m³ of raw materials and finished product.

Our Antwerp site complies with all the relevant safety and environmental standards and is certified ISO 14001 compliant. Our ISO 9001 certified quality system and our experienced, highly dedicated personnel assure timely delivery of high quality products to customers worldwide.

Gladbeck, Germany

INEOS Phenol Gladbeck Germany SiteINEOS Phenol GmbH was originally founded in Gladbeck, a town located in the western part of Germany, by Phenolchemie in 1952.

The company started Phenol production in 1954 and at that time had a total capacity of 8,000 te/a (metric tonnes per annum) of Phenol and 5,000 te/a of Acetone. Continuous improvement together with selective investments has grown the plant capacity over the years. Our Gladbeck facility is now the largest single train Phenol plant in the world and the second largest Phenol production site globally with a capacity of over 650,000 te/a of Phenol and 400,000 te/a of Acetone. In addition to production, the Gladbeck site is also home to both our technology development group and our European customer service centre. The site also provides services for the INEOS Phenol headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland.

INEOS Phenol has high environmental standards which have helped the business develop good and trusting relationships with our neighbours as well as the authorities. Our environmental management system fully complies with ISO 14001: 2004. We are also ISO 9001:2008 certified. Over the years the site has received numerous quality certificates and awards.

Raw materials are transported by pipeline, rail, and truck to the site and over half of the finished products are shipped by rail. Our extensive infrastructure and reliable plant enables us to meet customer requirements.

We aim high at Gladbeck, always striving to satisfy our customers’ requirements for consistent, on specification, on time supply, time after time.

Marl, Germany

At Marl, INEOS Styrenics operates a 260,000 te/a cumene plant on behalf of INEOS Phenol.

The INEOS Phenol operations are a part of the Marl chemical park which is located in the northern Ruhr area of Germany. The Marl Chemical Park is the third largest integrated industrial site in Germany and hosts in excess of twenty differing companies.

Production of Cumene first started in 1954 and over the years, the capacity has been increased to today’s level of 260,000 te/a. The raw materials for the plant (benzene, propylene) are provided by INEOS Phenol and are shipped to the site via pipeline, barge and railcar. The resulting cumene is then fed, 17 km via pipeline, to our Phenol plant in Gladbeck.

In November 2011 our Cumene plant in Marl celebrated a notable achievement when it exceeded 10 years of operation without a single lost time injury. Our Marl operations comply with all the relevant safety and environmental standards and are certified ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001 compliant.

Pasadena, Texas USA

In 1978, Pasadena started Cumene production when Georgia Pacific commissioned a 320,000 te/a plant. In 1996, the Cumene plant was the first to convert to the Badger Zeolite Catalyst process. This increased the capacity of the plant to 680,000 te/a. Through increased knowledge of the plant and debottlenecking efforts, the plant capacity is now at 907,000 te/a, which makes it the largest stand alone Cumene plant in the world.

Safety is very important at the Pasadena site. We are focused on sending every employee and contractor safely home to their families. Currently, the site has gone over 4 years without a lost time injury.

At the Pasadena site, we meet or beat the Environmental Compliance laws we fall under. We work hard to keep the environment around us clean. Our commitment to the environment has helped us develop a strong relationship with the Pasadena community we are a part of.

Pasadena receives raw material via water (barge and ship), railcars, truck and pipeline. Our product is shipped out by water (barge and ship) and truck. We ship our product to customers all over the world.

Pasadena has a long history of being a reliable supplier of quality Cumene. We are excited to be a part of the INEOS Phenol team and look forward to a strong future.
