  • INEOS

INEOS Fluor, the world’s leading producer of Refrigerant 134a has opened a new regional office in Monterrey, to meet the needs of its growing refrigerants business in South America. The company, which has supplied refrigerant to the automotive air conditioning sector through Quimobasicos, will serve customers in South America directly, as it expands its business interests in the region.

Our business in South America continues to increase, as the market for alternative refrigerants in Mexico and Latin America grows". commented Ivan Marquez, Regional Manager INEOS Fluor Mexico. "This market has always been strategically important to INEOS and the time is now right for us to have a direct presence in the region. Our new office will provide direct support to our customers and will ensure that as their business grows, the high level of service that is our hallmark is sustained.”

INEOS Fluor will provide the regions refrigerant needs from its world-class manufacturing facility in St. Gabriel, LA, which has successfully increased its capacity to meet recent high demand for R-134a. The company, which has refrigerant manufacture at its core, also has an R-134a plant at Mihara, Japan and has invested in expanding its R-125 capacity at Runcorn in the UK.

Over time it is expected that this office will become the regional headquarters for INEOS Fluor in Latin America as activities in, Mexico, Argentina, Uraguay, Chile, Peru, El Salvador, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic continue to develop.

INEOS Fluor was the first company in the world to make available commercial, non-flammable, energy efficient replacements for CFCs. Previously owned by ICI, the company was acquired by INEOS in January 2001. With manufacturing facilities across three main sites – St. Gabriel, La. (US), Runcorn (UK) and Mihara (Japan), the company manufactures and supplies refrigerants, used in supermarkets and air conditioning; medical propellants used in asthma sprays; anesthetics and products that are used in non-stick cookware to waterproof breathable fabrics. Around 1/3 of the worlds automotive air-conditioning systems use KLEA®134a (R-134a)

INEOS Fluor Americas LLC, based in St. Gabriel La., manufactures HFC-134a refrigerant, which has enabled companies around the world to replace CFCs and HCFCs. HFCs are designed for use mainly in sealed systems such as refrigerators. They are the most rigorously tested chemicals ever; they are easy to handle and highly energy efficient. The availability of HFCs worldwide has already made a real and significant contribution to the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, not least by replacing CFCs.

HFCs are widely used in refrigeration and air-conditioning applications and underpin cost-effective, energy efficient technology for commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. Their use spans automotive and office air-conditioning, domestic and supermarket refrigeration, transport and chiller systems.
