The INEOS Lima facility is located just outside the mid-sized town of Lima, Ohio. The plant sits on 92,4 acres and is a major producer of industrial chemical products. The plants primary product, acrylonitrile, is manufactured by reacting ammonia, propylene and air over catalyst (amoxidation process). Acrylonitrile is a key ingredient in ABS, acrylamide, acrylic fibres for clothing, carpets and blankets.
The Lima, Ohio Plant is the birthplace of large scale economic commercial Acrylonitrile manufacturing. The Lima site hosted the very first Acrylonitrile Plant using the ammoxidation process. Lima’s acrylonitrile technology is used in the manufacture of over 90% of the world’s acrylonitrile. Acetonitrile, also produced at Lima, is used as a solvent in the production of insulin and antibiotics and as a raw material in the production of naturally occurring pesticides. Catalyst that is used in the acrylonitrile process is also manufactured in Lima. Plant operations are capital intensive and highly automated. The plant is designed to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year with periodic scheduled maintenance shutdowns. Lima maintains the highest standards for safety, health and environmental care.
