Carbon Capture Storage & Use

Although the vision of INEOS is to cut emissions at source, we recognise that carbon capture and storage or use will still be an important way of mitigating against GHG emissions.

Although the vision of INEOS is to cut emissions at source, we recognise that carbon capture and storage or use will still be an important way of mitigating against GHG emissions. In fact, we already operate carbon capture

For the last ten years, we have been capturing GHG emissions at plants in Antwerp and Germany, removing over 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide - equivalent to the emissions from 80,000 cars.

We are also working on proving the potential for large scale storage of carbon. In Denmark we are partnering with other industries and the Danish Government to store carbon dioxide in INEOS-owned depleted oil fields in the North Sea. In due course, the project will make the largest single contribution to cutting Denmark’s GHG emissions.

However, our ultimate aim is not only to capture and store carbon dioxide, but to use it as well. In conjunction with partners at the port of Antwerp, we are building a demonstration plant to make clean fuel from captured carbon dioxide and green hydrogen. The project will use INEOS’ expertise in electrolysis, hydrogen, and carbon capture, and if successful will be a breakthrough in the path towards large scale production of zero emission liquid fuels.
